How to clean and maintain greenhouse covering materials? Greenhouse Covering Material Cleaning and Maintenance Guide

01 Cleaning Methods
Film Materials
General Cleaning: Use a long-handled soft-bristle brush or high-pressure water to remove surface dust. Cleaning should be done on sunny days during the afternoon or afternoon when temperatures are higher.
Stubborn Stains: Avoid scratching with hard objects. Use a neutral detergent to assist in wiping. Avoid using corrosive chemicals.
Light Transmission Restoration: Regular cleaning can reduce the loss of light transmittance (approximately 10%-20%) and maintain normal crop photosynthesis.
Glass Materials
Daily Cleaning: Use a soft cloth or rubber scraper to remove surface dust and water stains. Avoid using hard brushes or acidic cleaners to prevent scratches or corrosion.
Deep Maintenance: Use a high-pressure water jet to clean glass and gutter sludge every 2-3 months. Check for cracks and repair them.
Hollow Board/Plastic Board
Use similar cleaning methods as for glass. Repair damaged areas with sealant or tape.
02 Damage Repair and Reinforcement
Film Repair
Minor tears: Use special film repair tape or plastic film repair tape to patch.
Large tears: Cover with new film to reinforce, ensuring the repaired area is smooth and airtight.
Glass/Insulated Panel Maintenance
If cracks are found, seal with glass glue or replace the damaged panel.
Inspect sharp edges of the frame and wrap with a soft cloth to prevent scratches on the covering material.

03 Seasonal Maintenance Priorities
Spring
Clean the surface of the covering material and disinfect it to prevent disease; renew the soil and inspect the irrigation system.
Reinforce the connection between the film and the frame to prevent loosening or damage caused by strong winds.
Summer
Install sunshade nets to adjust light transmittance (reduced to 60%-70%) and clean the drainage system to prevent water accumulation.
Increase ventilation and check the operation of fans and louvers.
Winter
Remove snow promptly to prevent the covering material from being compressed and deformed; apply insulation and inspect the heating system.
Frost-proof pipes to prevent brittle cracking caused by low temperatures.
04 Storage and Long-Term Maintenance
Film Storage: After disassembly, store the rolls in a cool, dry place. Do not stack or place them on heavy objects.
Glass Storage: Store upright on wooden racks or rubber mats to prevent water ingress and absorption.
Anti-Aging Measures: Choose UV-resistant materials and regularly inspect connectors for rust and replace them promptly.
The above staged and material-specific cleaning and maintenance strategies can effectively extend the life of the covering material and maintain the greenhouse’s light transmittance and environmental stability.
